Stephen has an exceptionally strong background in retail and in helping businesses achieve growth. He is a proven leader of people and in a successful career with Mitre 10, New Zealand’s leading home improvement retailer, achieved outstanding results. His time as Chief Executive for the family owned business which operated three Mitre 10 MEGAs in the Wellington region was a highlight of this career and he is well known for his passion in developing a great culture within that business. He was recognised in 2010 by the hardware industry and was named “Retailer of the Year”, the industry’s highest accolade.
Since then Stephen has continued to work with privately owned businesses and has mentored other CEOs and GMs in a variety of different organisations. The skills he has attained from working in a complex, rapidly changing, 7 day a week work environment are transferable to many industries. Stephen’s skillset around leadership is particularly strong especially when it is linked in to building a great culture within an organisation.
