ICEHOUSE alumni wins Ahuwhenua Trophy

Te Awahohonu Forest Trust – Tarawera Station has won the 2013 Ahuwhenua Trophy, the BNZ Māori Excellence in Farming Award.  Te Awahohonu Trustee, Bob Cottrell, attended The ICEHOUSE Māori Business Growth workshop last year. Aotearoa Māori Business Awards

The Aotearoa New Zealand Māori Business Leaders Awards™ acknowledge the academic success of Māori. The Awards also honour and celebrate the success and achievement of Māori business leaders. The Awards have enabled the Business School to develop a network of Māori business alumni who support each other professionally and gather each year to reaffirm their commitment to support the academic and business successes of our Māori students. ICEHOUSE Māori Alumni Speak

Do ICEHOUSE programmes help grow Māori businesses?  Are they relevant? The ICEHOUSE Māori unit have spoken with 25 Māori alumni to learn more about their businesses.  We also got feedback about the effectiveness of ICEHOUSE business growth programmes.  We found that ICEHOUSE programmes did add value, provided tools and frameworks, opened networks, grew confidence, changed behaviour and ultimately they have helped grow Māori businesses (to varying degrees).  We have compiled a report, and the four key learnings from it are: 1)      Most valued learning in the programmes was ‘Knowing the financial numbers’, closely followed by building networks. 2)      3/4 of the Māori alumni had a role in their community or marae, and found that the programmes added value to these roles (wider application of ICEHOUSE…
