The ICE Angels - filling the funding gap for start up investment
Founded in 2003 the ICE Angels is Australasia’s largest group of experienced investors, with over 90 members the club has supported over 14 companies, providing funding of over $23.9Million across 38 investment rounds.
The ICE Angels connect high-potential start-up ventures, with willing investors to facilitate the funding and success of emerging companies. Operating as a collective of private investors who work together to increase their 'deal flow' (the number of investment opportunities they see) ICE Angels invest both expertise and money in selected companies.
ICE Angels deal flow is sourced from within and outside of The ICEHOUSE business incubator. External deals are sourced from our partners such as The University of Auckland, CRI's, other incubators and organisations such as Hi Growth. We also welcome investment opportunities from outside this network, provided they meet our strict investment criteria. ICE Angel investors are interested in early stage ventures that have high growth potential (beyond New Zealand) within sectors such as:
- Software
- Media
- Internet
- Communication
- Life Sciences
- Medical Devices
And other sectors where the members have sufficient competency to add value to the venture.
As a guide ICE Angel investment typically includes qualification criteria such as:
- Capital Needs - Ventures will typically be in the product development phase and need capital of $0.1- $1m to advance to the next phase of their development.
- Market Opportunity - The market opportunity will be international, typically with a potential market of NZ$100m+. Timing will be a minimum of 12 months ahead of the market.
- Financeability - It is desirable that subsequent funding sources be identified at the time of the investment.
Potential deals undergo a thorough due diligence process prior to investment. ICE Angels are experienced entrepreneurs and business people who take an active interest in the management of investee companies. ICE Angels is not a venture capital fund, though we do have venture capitalists as affiliate members.
